Holly Blue Agate Cabochon

Holly Blue or Calapooia Purple is one of my "backyard" stones. It's found in the Calapooia river just north of my studio. The main mine is now owned on private forestry land and closed. However, the lucky rockhound can still find a piece or two downstream. The material is typically quite fractured and finding a piece this large is rare. Crystal formation in the center has two open pockets with a small opening on the left edge of the cab in the agate. 

Statement size. 32.5 carats. Back is flat, polished and beveled. Photographed in outdoor overcast light.
